  4.         The following describes changes to CheckIt
  5.               since the manual was printed.
  6.  
  7. General
  8.  
  9. A few issues of compatibility are discussed in this section.  Mostly,
  10. this text is purely informational; CheckIt will automatically take any
  11. action necessary to maintain compatibility with a particular PC.
  12.

  14. * CHECKIT IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH THE TANDY 1000, 1000A, 1000SX, 1000EX, 1000HX,
  15. * 1000TX, OR THE TANDY 2000.

  17. * GENERALLY, CHECKIT WILL WORK CORRECTLY IF THE MACHINE IS A TRUE PC-COMPATIBLE,
  18. * WITH IBM-PC - COMPATIBLE SLOTS INSTEAD OF THE TANDY "PLUS" SLOTS.

  21.     DISK NAMES
  22.  
  23.     CheckIt refers to the physical drives installed in your PC as "Drive 0,"
  24.     "Drive 1," etc.  Since you may not be familiar with these names, CheckIt
  25.     tries to determine the DOS names for these drives as well (i.e. A:, B:,
  26.     etc.).  The line below shows an example of how both a floppy and hard
  27.     disk would be represented on a typical system:

  29.         Floppy Drive 0 (A:)             Hard Drive 0 (C:-D:)
  30.  
  31.     On rare occations, CheckIt may mis-identify the DOS names for the drive.
  32.     Since CheckIt does not use DOS drive names, all functions will still
  33.     work properly on the drive number being used.

  35.     COMPATIBILITY

  37.     CheckIt runs on most PC compatibles, and will probably run on yours.

  88.     The following paragraph explains known problems with specific systems:

  90.     CheckIt will not test protected mode (in the System Board test) or 
  91.     extended memory (in the Memory test) on the AT&T PC 6300+ and Old HP
  92.     Vectra PC.  All other functions work normally.  CheckIt automatically
  93.     determines if it is running on one of these machines and skips these
  94.     tests.

  96.     HERCULES MONOCHROME GRAPHICS COMPATIBILITY
  97.  
  98.     CheckIt will detect and support the Hercules Monochrome Graphics
  99.     Adapter (HGA) only when the MSHERC.COM program (on Disk #2) has
  100.     been loaded first.  To do this, insert Disk #2 and type "MSHERC"
  101.     from the DOS A> prompt before running CheckIt.

  103. Testing with Multiple Passes
  104.  
  105.     If you are testing multiple passes with either "Test Memory" or
  106.     "Select Batch..." and logging the results to either a disk or
  107.     printer,  CheckIt will only save the detail log to these devices.
  108.     The in-memory log is disabled to avoid running out of memory
  109.     during long batches.

  111. The CHEKBIOS.EXE File (Disk 2)
  112.  
  113.     If CheckIt displays "(Standard)" as the BIOS manufacturer on your PC,
  114.     you can use this program  to create a file containing the information
  115.     we need for a future release of CheckIt to recognize your BIOS.
  116.     Please call our support department before using for additional
  117.     instructions.
